SSP Safe & Sound Protocol
& iLs Integrated Listening System
SSP is a 5-day music-therapy intervention.
Designed to reduce stress of any kind and auditory sensitivity,
while at the same time strengthening resilience in social interactions with the world.
The transformative power of the feeling of safety and connectedness.

What is SSP - Safe & Sound Protocol
Today more than ever, the world is a busy place full of uncertainty. It is difficult for people of all ages, demographics and geographic origins. When the body is confronted with what it perceives as a threat or danger, it reacts by putting the nervous system in a state of defense again and again - either "fight or flight" (sympathetic) or "retreat or freeze" ( dorsal vagal). The first priority of the brain and the body is to keep us alive.
SSP is a non-invasive music therapeutic intervention that has been researched for many years and was developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and colleagues and has only been accessible since 2017. SSP is a "non standalone" intervention. It is therefore recommended that SSP be used in support of other forms of therapy. Research showed after the use of SSP that the effectiveness of other forms of therapy was increased and the duration could be shortened in order to achieve the desired goal.

SSP is a 5-day intervention that stimulates the regulation of the nervous system.
Stress of any kind as well as auditory sensitivity is reduced. At the same time, the "social engagement system" (the social behavior) and resilience can be strengthened.
An autonomous nervous system, which is based on resources, can receive signals of security and connectedness, responds immediately and flexibly, from which a lasting change in our quality of life can be achieved.
In this music therapy intervention, singing music is heard that has been specially filtered so that the middle ear muscles are specifically moved and the hearing is systematically challenged and trained. The music is able to re-tune the nervous system and to regulate it in such a way that a feeling of security, security and connectedness arises in the exchange of social behavior.
What is SSP not!
No relaxation music
No meditation
It has no subliminal messages
It's not binaural stimulation
Not a system with the aim of temporarily promoting relaxation, but rather building a new, permanent, neural platform that makes people feel safer in the world
SSP is not psychotherapy, but creates a basis for security. On this basis, forms of therapy can take effect better, faster and more effectively
SSP is also not a substitute for medical or psychiatric treatment
How can SSP help ...
-
Constant stress over a long period of time
-
Balance disorders (including seasick riding)
-
Misophonia - hypersensitivity to certain sounds
-
Lack of self-regulation
-
Social and emotional difficulties

A step-by-step journey through the inside of the ear
Auditory transmission
This video is from Brandon Pletsch, a former medical illustration student at the Medical College of Georgia.
It describes how sound waves travel through each part of the ear and how the hair cells, convert the triggered vibrations into nerve impulses.
Here you can see how the nervous system reacts on the basis of the sound and not on the basis of the words alone and thus evaluates signals of danger or safety.
Let's imagine a movie scene. A harmless sentence with beautifully background music or the same sentence with dramatic music and two totally different worlds of experience can be created.
The autonomic nervous system ANS
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is at the center of our self-regulatory process and affects important systems in our body, including our heart, breathing rate and digestion.
It constantly sends signals to our body and makes us ready to react to different situations at any time.
Our autonomic nervous system is controlled to a large extent by a nerve that is very important for our general well-being: the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body, stretching from the brain stem down to the stomach.
Polyvagal Theory
The science of feeling safe
Focuses on what is happening inside of the body and the nervous system and explains how our sense of safety, danger or threat, can impact our behavior.
The focus is on what goes on inside the body and the nervous system and explains how our sense of security, danger or threat can influence our behavior.
Training the middle ear muscles strengthens the nervous system that is responsible for recovery, health and development .
This nervous system is known as the 'Social Engagement System' and is controlled by the Ventral Vagus. It is one of the three nervous systems that humans have developed in the course of evolution.
sympathetic nervous system
parasympathetic nervous system
social nervous system
The social nervous system is a subsystem of the polyvagal nervous system and thereby makes us social beings.
The autonomic nervous system assumes a protective and defensive function and is responsible for our well-being and satisfaction.
It is geared towards three life situations:
safety
Danger and
risk of death
People who feel safe behave calmly and calmly, which promotes social solidarity and communication. The ventral-vagal system is active in this situation.
If even one function of this system is impaired, the entire social behavior and our self-regulation suffer as a result.
If the middle ear muscles are impaired, frequency impulses can no longer be properly filtered, which leads to regulation difficulties and sensitivity to noise.
Since low frequencies are interpreted as a danger in the brain stem due to evolution, the nervous system experiences an overload, which is manifested by social withdrawal, hyperactivity, social phobia, depression, etc. The environment is perceived as 'too much'.
These functions can be optimized through SSP, resulting in a lasting change in our quality of life.
An autonomous nervous system, which is based on resources, can receive signals of security and connectedness, responds immediately and flexibly.
The interpersonal interaction is strengthened. Positive signals - "glimmers" can be recognized again. A healthy, flexible self-regulation expands our perspective and point of view again. This gives us more confidence and hope and we feel more relaxed and happier.

Do you do Sessions in English?Yes! I studied with Marisa Peer London, UK - and the whole Training is in English. Beside RTT, most of what I studied and learned has been trained in English. I am looking forward to work with you.
